Similar to other Bethesda Games Studios titles, Starfield has several NPCs in its world who are available to romance. In Bethesda's last single-player release, Fallout 4, there were ten characters to romance. In Starfield, there are only four options: Sarah Morgan, Barrett, Sam Coe, and Andreja.
While there may not be as many options this time around, each character available to romance has plenty of depth, arguably surpassing the quality of companions found in Fallout 4. While each player will have a different preference as to who they choose to romance, every romanceable NPC in Starfield has a strong personality worthy of love.
5 How To Romance Characters In Starfield
With each romanceable NPC being a member of Constellation, it’s easy to find all of them along the main quest path. Sarah Morgan, Barrett, Sam Coe, and Andreja can be taken as companions to accompany you on quests throughout the Settled Systems, and the choices you make during your travels will either raise or lower your affinity to your chosen companion. Raising your affinity with them is how to romance them.
To raise your affinity with a chosen NPC, it's important to understand the character's personality traits. For instance, Barrett might not mind if you bend the law a little bit if it means achieving a positive outcome; Andreja, however, might not appreciate that. And while Sam might enjoy a more straightforward approach to solving problems, Sarah might prefer to find solutions that are more complex but also more thorough.
Once you have an NPC’s affinity toward you high enough, you will receive a unique companion quest from the character. After completing this quest, the companion will present you with a romance option when speaking to you.
4 Sarah Morgan
As the leader of Constellation, Sarah Morgan has a fierce personality and the skills to back it up. Having served in the United Colonies during the Colony War as a ship navigator, Sarah's military background makes her a capable companion while exploring the Settled Systems.
Sarah also has a fun side to her, having been a drummer in her high school band, “Ironic Comet.” She’s also given a lot of thought to her upbringing, commenting on the role her parents’ religion had in her life and how she’s elected to follow a different path. Sarah’s strong personality and military background might make her an intimidating choice to some, but she’s much deeper than she appears to be at the outset, and she would make an excellent choice for a romantic partner.
3 Barrett
Barrett is Constellation’s wisecracking smooth talker. It’s clear from the first moment he speaks that he has a way with words like no other character does in Starfield. Armed with a personality loaded with charm and wit, Barrett’s only ever a sentence or two away from making his friends chuckle.
He isn’t all jokes, however. Barrett knows when to be serious, being assertive while facing off in conversations with adversaries. Like many other people in the Settled Systems, Barrett has some baggage that he carries around with him that you will get to learn about as time goes on. If you are willing to understand his past and trauma, Barrett makes a fantastic partner who is able to provide mountains of love, entertainment, and laughter.
2 Sam Coe
Sam Coe is Constellation’s resident space cowboy, and he’s incredibly endearing. Upon first meeting Sam, the player will also meet Sam’s daughter, Cora. It’s clear from the beginning that Sam cares more about his daughter than anything in the world. He’s a man who has his priorities straight, and he values justice above all else.
Sam’s also a capable fighter, having been a Freestar Ranger in the Freestar Collective, making him an excellent companion to have along during your space travel if things go south. This, combined with his rugged good looks and cowboy charms, make him a strong contender for you to romance. As long as it’s understood that Sam and Cora are a package deal, Sam would be a great partner to have with you while exploring the stars.
1 Andreja
Andreja is Constellation’s mysterious loose cannon. It’s clear from the moment that you meet her that she’s capable of handling herself, taking out enemies single-handedly without breaking a sweat. She has proficiencies in stealth and particle beams, making her an excellent choice as a companion for stealth-oriented combat.
Andreja’s mysterious nature also means that even most members of Constellation aren’t privy to her past, and she’s not exactly forthcoming with details. She has a good reason for keeping her walls up, but once her affinity with you increases, it becomes apparent that Andreja has a strong heart. Above all, Andreja values honesty, loyalty, and commitment to doing what's right. There are some major topics that need to be discussed, but she’s willing to make a commitment. However, if you are willing to make it work, Andreja would be an amazing partner.
