Ravensburger has unveiled a special release for its TCG Disney Lorcana to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary, offering six alt-art cards with art by actual Disney animators.

Creatively titled Disney Lorcana: Disney100 Edition, the release is taking the place of the newly announced Rise of the Floodborn’s gift set. While it isn’t specifically a part of Rise of the Floodborn, it will launch alongside the set in mass retail on December 1.

The box, currently priced at $49.99 USD and $64.99 CAD, includes four booster packs of Rise of the Floodborn, and six full-art promo cards. The cards are a mix of both The First Chapter and Rise of the Floodborn, with the first set’s Stitch, Abomination; Maleficent, Uninvited; Maui, Demigod; and Genie, Powers Unleashed being joined by Rise of the Floodborn’s new Mickey Mouse, Friendly Face; and Elsa, Gloves Off.

The exciting part of these cards are their artists, who all work as artists for Disney. For instance, Bill Schwab, the artist of Maui, Demigod, served as the art director on 2021’s Encanto and in the art department for Moana. Meanwhile, Eric Goldberg, the artist for Genie, Powers Unleashed, is an absolute legend at Disney with a career that spans over thirty years. Most importantly, he was the character designer for Genie, making this card a return to the character he helped create.

Despite sharing a frame and a rainbow foiling effect with them, these cards aren’t considered enchanted rares. Instead, they have their own, unique stamp of the Disney100 logo at the bottom. This makes them promo cards, much like the highly sought-after D23 Expo promos from 2022, and this year’s Gamescom and GenCon cards.

Unlike those, these are going to be mass-produced and available in big box stores, which means they might be slightly easier to get your hands on. Judging by the stock shortages of The First Chapter, though, these will still be incredibly tricky to get a hold of. As a result, collectors will probably want to get a hold of these as quickly as possible, before the inevitable scalpers move in hoping to flip the cards later down the line.

Lorcana Disney100 Cards

In some ways, this release feels similar to the Secret Lair series of Magic: The Gathering cards. Highly limited alt-art cards available in a single bundle, sold at a similar price. The main difference between the two is the method of sale: MTG’s Secret Lair is sold directly through Wizards of the Coast, while this will be released in stores. You also get booster packs included in the Lorcana Disney100 Edition, which makes it slightly better value for money than a Secret Lair.

Disney100 Edition will be launching in both local game stores and big-box retail stores on December 1, a first for the game that released its first set in local game stores almost two weeks earlier. Regardless, good luck to all those who want it, because this is going to sell out so, so quickly.
